An Intriguing Space Strategy Game
Space invasions are always intriguing with games and films on the subject always being popular amongst the masses. However, most games and films are created with the perspective of human beings with the humans leading conquests into space in order to engage with different aliens and to cast them as friends or enemies. Space strategy games do not need to be completely from the perspective of humans though and can be about planets attacking each other to gain the most ground in space. Colonizer is one such space strategy game that promises a similar storyline. Let's take a look at Creative Robot's offering in more depth to see if you should check this game out or not!
The game has a cool vibe with a solid landing page that introduces you to the main gaming options on offer. You can basically have 8 players in the game in total. You can decide on the number of AI players and the number of human players in the game. The AI players are obviously not under your control and you can decide whether you want to ask your friends to play with you on the same screen or control all the human players yourself. You can also choose between six difficulty levels namely Noob, Easy, Medium, Hard, Extreme and Impossible. There are also choices about the map sizes and you can choose between Small, Medium, Large and Huge. The space strategy game also offers choices in Game speeds and planet movements but they are only unlocked in the paid version of the game.
The space strategy game makes life slightly difficult because there is no tutorial to get you started with the controls and to get you started with the basic strategies that can be deployed in the game. You have to figure out everything on your own and this is greatly frustrating. If you have played any games of this sort then you will not have a lot of trouble. However, if you are new to this kind of gaming, it would take you some time to understand the controls and how you can employ different strategies to overcome opponents and take control of the available planets quicker than your opposition. Starting in Easy mode with a less crowded field (less number of players) would help in this regard, as you can figure out how the game works initially through trial and error.
The gameplay itself is interesting with each player occupying one planet at the start of the game with a particular color and a particular number, usually 20, assigned to it. There are a number of neutral planets with no color assigned and the number "0" assigned to them. The gameplay requires you to send planes/rockets to the neutral planets. You can choose the direction of your planes/rockets and the number that you want to send in the particular direction. The number of planes/rockets you would fire would be detected from your main total (would eventually rise again) and the number of planes/rockets that land on the neutral planet would be the number it would be assigned. The team that controls all the planets in this manner ends up winning.
The controls in the space strategy game are difficult and this is the biggest problem. Selecting the planet and setting the direction both are difficult with slow response from the game engine. The aim is also usually poor and this can cause frustration too. The graphics are fine and commensurate with the requirements of the game.
Features:
- Cool app design
- Good variety of gaming options
- Multiple gaming difficulty options
- Easy and simple gameplay
Conclusion:
Colonizer is an intriguing space strategy game with a solid gaming layout. However, difficult controls and lack of tutorial makes the initial learning curve extremely steep. If you don't get discouraged too easily then this would game would be a good challenge!
